Poetry event in New Haven

Check this out.  Sounds pretty interesting… not sure I’ll be able to make it (busy week planned…)

THE POETRY INSTITUTE – NEW HAVEN

Third Thursday Open Mic

Featuring Favorite Poems

Thursday, June 17, 2010

Our second annual Favorite Poem Evening is here!  Last year, Robert Pinsky presented led a Favorite Poem Evening at the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, and Favorite Poem events sprang up all over town and around the state.  But this year, we are the only Favorite Poem event around!  So don’t miss it!

Come and read one of your favorite poems and hear others read theirs!

One poem per reader.  Tell us why the poem is special to you.  Four minute limit.

For the Favorite Poem Reading, readers should not read their own poem.  If time allows, we will also have an Open Mike when reading your own work is fine.

On the third Thursday of each month, The Poetry Institute Poetry Series celebrates an eclectic mix of poetic voices.  Free.  Refreshments.  Open mic.  Outstanding featured readers.  In a casual setting.   Open to all members of the public (and even others).
The Institute Library
847 Chapel Street
New Haven, CT

Doors Open at 6:30.  Reading starts at 7:00.

Please arrive a few minutes early to sign up for the reading.

Great Poetry!

In a Warm, Friendly Environment

  1. I attend this group often, which usually has a featured poet and open mike. They have a great deal of enthusiasm and talent. A welcoming bunch.
“A warm friendly environment” is quite accurate.

I went to the Favorite Poem evening last year and read “The Pomegranate” by Eavan Boland, but this year I have to attend my nephew’s high school graduation. I do encourage everyone to go!

    • They sound like a good bunch and the event itself seems like it would be fun. I don’t expect to be there, unfortunately, but hopefully someone can go and give us a little report here…
